National Archives of India

The National Archives of India is the custodian of the records of enduring value of the Government of India. Established on 11 March 1891 at Calcutta (Kolkata) as the Imperial Records Department, the National Archives of India is the custodian of the records of enduring value. It is the biggest archival repository in South Asia. 
Courses offered

One Year Diploma Course in Archives and Records Management (At Professional Level)

Duration: (One Year) November to October.
Eligibility: M.A (History) second class with minimum 50% marks in aggregate with one optional paper in Modern Indian History (Post 1750 period.) from a recognized university.
                                                                                                Or
 M.A. in other streams of Social Sciences i.e. Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Linguistics, etc. with minimum 50% marks from a recognized University.
                                                                                                Or
M.Sc. in Applied/ Physical Sciences with minimum 50% marks from a recognized University.                                                                              
Out of total 30 seats, 10 seats are reserved for Master Degree in History and 10 seats for other streams, i.e. M.A. in Social Sciences, M.Sc in Applied/ Physical Sciences etc. and 10 seats are reserved for sponsored candidates.
Medium of Instruction: English/Hindi.
Mode of Course: Regular (Full Time).
Selection: For 20 seats meant for Private Candidates, admission would be made through a written test followed by an interview.  Admission is made purely on merit basis.  For sponsored candidate there is no entrance test and they are admitted purely on the basis of sponsorship of the employer/ department and recommendation of the Selection Committee.
Scholarship: Ten scholarships of the value of Rs.3000/- p.m. are awarded purely on the basis of merit. Six Stipends of Rs.1500/- p.m. are awarded to sponsored candidates.
Registration Fee: Application along with   attested   copies of educational qualification and registration fee of One Year Diploma Course is Rs. 100/-( Rupees one hundred only)  for Indian and SAARC countries and US$ 40/- from foreign candidates (excluding SAARC countries) through crossed Indian Postal Orders/Bank Draft in favour of Administrative Officer, National Archives of India, Janpath, New Delhi-110001, be sent to the Director General of Archives, National Archives of India, Janpath, New Delhi-110001.  Sponsored candidates should apply through proper channel, as Registration fee for both private and sponsored candidates be sent to The Director General of Archives, National Archives of India, Janpath, New Delhi-110001.

I. Archives Management:

The course is planned to make the trainees aware of acquisition, arrangement, upkeep and retrieval of records.
Eligibility: Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university and should be below 30 years in age for private candidate, no age limit for sponsored candidate.
Duration: 6 weeks (session: February – March)
Application Fee: Rs. 25/- (Rupees twenty five) for Indian trainee and U.S.$ 25.00 (twenty five U.S. dollars) for foreign trainees.
Course Fee: Rs.300/- for Indian trainee and U.S.$300.00 for foreign trainee.
Selection Procedure: Entirely on the basis of merit (Marks basis) as per the above mentioned eligibility requirement..

II. Records Management:

The course is to train the trainee in creation, control and disposition of records.
Eligibility: Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university and should be below 30 years in age for private candidate, no age limit for sponsored candidate.
Duration: 4 weeks (May and September)
Application Fee: Rs.25/- (Rupees twenty five) for Indian candidate and US$25.00 for foreign candidate.
Course Fee: Rs.200/- (Rupees two hundred) for Indian trainees and US$200.00 for foreign trainee.
Selection Procedure: Entirely on the basis of merit (Marks basis) as per the above mentioned eligibility requirement
Will be available during active season.

III. Reprography:

The course is designed to train personnel in the process of reproduction of documents and manuscripts, in microfilming, handling of automated information storage, retrieval and dissemination.
Eligibility: Second class graduate from a recognized university, preferably in Science and should be below 30 years in age for private candidate, no age limit for sponsored candidate.
Duration: 6 weeks (April-May and September-October)
Application Fee: Rs.25/- (Rupees twenty five) for Indian candidate and US$25.00 for foreign candidate.
Course Fee: Rs.300/- (Rupees three hundred) for Indian trainees and US$300.00 for foreign trainee.
Selection Procedure: Entirely on the basis of merit (Marks basis) as per the above mentioned eligibility requirement
Will be available during active season.

IV. Care and Conservation of Books, Manuscripts and Archives:

The course is designed to train personnel in the scientific methods of conservation, repair, rehabilitation, storage and handling of documentary heritage.
Eligibility: Second class graduate from a recognized university, preferably in Science and should be below 30 years in age for private candidate, no age limit for sponsored candidate.
Duration: 8 weeks (July-August and November-December)
Application Fee: Rs.25/- (Rupees twenty five) for Indian candidate and US$25.00 for foreign candidate.
Course Fee: Rs.300/- (Rupees three hundred) for Indian trainees and US$300.00 for foreign trainee.
Selection Procedure: Entirely on the basis of merit (Marks basis) as per the above mentioned eligibility requirement
Will be available during active season.

V. Servicing and Repair of Records.

To train trainees in arrangement, supply, restoration and upkeep of records.
Eligibility:- High School, Knowledge of English/ Hindi and should be below 50 years in age.
Duration:- 6 weeks, Session: May-June and September-October.
Application Fee:- Rs. 25/- (Rupees Twenty Five) for Indian trainees and US @ 25.00 (Twenty Five US dollars) for foreign trainees.
Course Fee:- Rs. 300/- for Indian trainees and US $ 300.00 for foreign trainees.

Hostel Facilities
No hostel facility is available with the School. The trainees are required to make their own arrangement for board and lodging. Pay and allowances of government sponsored candidates have to be borne by their own respective Departments.
