Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), established in 1876 by Dr. Mahendralal Sircar — Asia's oldest scientific research institute — is a Deemed to be University under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Located at Jadavpur, South Kolkata, IACS is the historic institution where Prof. C.V. Raman conducted his Nobel Prize-winning research (Raman Effect) in 1928. 📌 Key Update for 2026: From the year 2026, IACS has moved to national-level entrance exams for admissions. BS-MS is now through IAT 2026 (same as IISERs). MSc/Integrated MS-PhD is through IIT JAM 2026. The earlier IACS-conducted UPST/MPST tests have been replaced by these national exams, making the process more accessible for students across India.
